Welcome to our latest project, where aesthetics meet strength and durability. This 24ft by 10ft brick wall, complemented by 60 sq ft of travertine stone, is a perfect blend of beauty and resilience. Designed and built with Miami's challenging weather conditions in mind, this installation adheres to the stringent anti-hurricane standards set by Miami-Dade County. Our construction not only enhances the outdoor space's visual appeal but also ensures long-lasting protection against harsh weather.
Materials Used
Concrete Blocks:
- Hollow Concrete Masonry Units (CMUs)
- ASTM C90, Grade N, Type I
- Standard 8"x8"x16" blocks
- Mortar: Type S or M, ASTM C270

- Clay or Concrete Bricks
- ASTM C62 (Clay bricks), ASTM C55 (Concrete bricks)
- Standard Modular Brick Size (3-5/8" x 2-1/4" x 7-5/8")
- Mortar: Type S or M, ASTM C270
Reinforcement:
- ASTM A615 Grade 60 steel reinforcement bars
- Size: #4 (1/2" diameter)
- Vertical and horizontal reinforcement per structural design
- Grout: ASTM C476 fine or coarse grout for filling CMUs and around rebar
Travertine Stone:
- Weather-resistant travertine pavers or tiles
- ASTM C1527 for exterior use
- 12"x12" or 18"x18" tiles, 1-1/4" thickness for pavers
Setting Material:
- Thin-set Mortar: ANSI A118.4 and ANSI A118.15 compliant, fortified with latex or polymer additives
- Adhesive: Miami-Dade NOA approved stone adhesive for exterior applications
Grout:
- Weather-resistant grout, ANSI A118.6 compliant
- Sanded ogrout
- Sealant
Membranes and Barriers:
- Waterproofing Membrane: ANSI A118.10 compliant, applied to substrates before installation
- Crack Isolation Membrane: ANSI A118.12 compliant, used to prevent cracks from substrate movement
Techniques Used
Anti-Hurricane Construction Methods:
- Built to withstand hurricane-force winds and debris impact
- Miami-Dade NOA approved hurricane ties and anchors
- High-strength, corrosion-resistant steel fasteners
Travertine Installation:
- Properly set using thin-set mortar and weather-resistant adhesives
- Grouted and sealed to ensure longevity and resistance to the elements
